Reminder: "Parenting the Digital Athlete" Tomorrow

24 Jan 2020 by Sarah Krizo

Tomorrow at 3 pm at the Alfond Competition Center

While the terms “digital natives” (today’s youth) and “digital immigrants” (modern parents), have been around since the early 2000s, today’s middle schoolers are the first generation to regularly have technology at their fingertips, literally, since early childhood or even infancy. What does this mean for parents of young athletes, what are the positive and negative impacts of technology on physical health, and what can we do to mitigate the risks and negative impacts?

Spoiler Alert: This will NOT be a parent shaming conversation! Never before in history have cultural and social norms and values changed so quickly. Culturally, we are parenting on quicksand!

This conversation will empower and encourage us to work together while navigating a world that is changing at a lightening fast pace. In doing so, our children will not only be better athletes, but they will also grow up to become healthier adults.

Shelby Downing, the Director of High Performance at Carrabassett Valley Academy, will be presenting.
